BCNG Portals Page (R): "Experts have flagged these factors that suggest situations where animal abuse may lead to abuse or violence against people:
• Multiple victims or repeated injuries. Suggests greater potential for uncontrolled violence.
• Vulnerable victims. Violence against particularly small, harmless creatures shows a desire for a power and control.
• Premeditated acts. Long-term planning suggests possible psychopathic thought processes. Binding or trapping of animals to prevent escape shows a higher degree of intentional, premeditated violence.
• Close contact. Abuse that allows the abuser to witness the effect – such as strangling or crushing – may be a more serious indicator than more remote acts such as shooting and poisoning."
